Comprehensive work on our customer's project

When designing the landscape on a 1400 m² plot with a house in Canada, we relied on the request of the customer's family for a natural and peaceful environment and created a space in which unity with nature became the key feeling. On the plot there are: a summer kitchen with a barbecue area, an outdoor swimming pool, a spa space, a gym, hiking trails and several private recreation areas.

It was important for us to make the territory comfortable for living and recreation at any time of the year. This was achieved by working with the terrain, selecting plants, and making smooth transitions between functional areas.

The objective of the Au Cœur du Bois project

The main task was to combine two different customer wishes into a single concept. The owner of the house was close to the idea of a natural landscape with the atmosphere of a primeval forest, where there are no rigid axes and strict geometry, and the composition is perceived as free and natural. It was important for the hostess to integrate flower beds and more decorative landscaping scenarios. This is how the concept of Au Cœur du Bois appeared, which means "in the heart of the forest" in French.

The landscape is built on the principle of a natural continuation of the environment. The forest outside the site visually merges into the territory of the residence, which creates the feeling of an integral natural space. This technique is an important part of Studia 54's proprietary approach to architecture and landscape design, where the house, plot and environment are perceived as a single composition.

The unique approach of Studia 54

The space looks calm and natural, but behind this lightness lies precise work with routes, proportions, viewpoints and the balance between open and private areas. For Studia 54, the landscape always becomes a continuation of the architectural concept of the house and the lifestyle of the owners.

The infrastructure of the site is thought out as part of a single scenario of suburban life. There is a summer kitchen with a barbecue area, an outdoor swimming pool, a spa space, a gym, hiking trails and several private recreation areas. All the elements are interconnected by a well-thought-out route system, so that the site is perceived as whole and harmonious.

The central accent of the courtyard was a fir tree planted next to the pool. During the year, it maintains the feeling of a living natural space and forms an expressive vertical in the composition of the site, and in winter it turns into a festive symbol of the house. During the New Year period, the tree becomes a natural center of attraction for the whole family: the soft lighting is reflected in the pool water, and the panoramic glazing of the house enhances the connection of the interior with the winter garden.

Special attention was paid to the location of the pool relative to the main areas of the house and the routes of movement on the site. The living room, terrace and recreation area offer different scenarios for the perception of water and garden, and the reflections of trees, evening lighting and architecture of the house change the atmosphere of the space depending on the time of day and season.

Front entrance

The entrance to the house is organized through a front turntable with a central art object in the form of a composition with a rock. To create a mirror effect, polished granite was used, which enhances the visual depth of the composition and reflects the surrounding landscaping.

From the entrance group begins a system of walking routes that run throughout the site. The pedestrian paths are built in such a way that a person gradually opens up the garden space while driving. Decorative step-by-step paving elements are used in some areas, creating a more natural character of the environment.

Focal area and sports ground

Special attention is paid to recreation scenarios. The focal area is located in the central part of the site and is equidistant from the main recreational spaces, which makes it convenient to use from anywhere in the garden. Nearby there is an area with swings, forming a chamber space for family recreation. An outdoor playground for outdoor activities is provided in front of the gym. For this purpose, part of the plantings was intentionally opened to preserve the feeling of air and visual freedom.

Additional access to the forest through a separate gate and sliding gates enhances the connection of the site with the surrounding nature and allows you to perceive the forest as a natural extension of the residence.

Gardening and plant selection

Landscaping has become an important part of the project. Large-sized fir trees are planted along the boundaries of the site, forming a green screen and creating a sense of privacy. The selection of plants is made taking into account the climatic features of Canada and is focused on sustainability, durability and natural appearance throughout the year.

The project uses Serbian firs, prickly firs, black pines, red and silver maples, whole-leaved willows, European hornbeam, junipers of various species, nivaki pines, Thunberg barberry, chrysanthemum, lavender, sage, hydrangeas and white roses. The plants are selected in such a way that the landscape looks expressive in different seasons and retains its natural character without feeling overloaded with decorations.

Flower beds and natural atmosphere

A separate place in the composition is occupied by flower beds, which the hostess of the house has always dreamed of on her plot, located next to the hearth zone, the spa space, the turntable and the living room area. They form soft color accents and make the atmosphere of the garden more lively and expressive.

In the northern part of the territory, next to the summer kitchen, there is a compact vegetable garden with convenient access from all sides. This solution supports the general concept of natural life outside the city and is organically integrated into the landscape.

The Au Cœur du Bois project is based on working with a sense of the natural environment on a 1,400 m² plot. It was important for us to find a balance between architecture and nature. That is why the composition of the garden is based on soft transitions, free groups of plants and visual depth, which creates the impression of a forest space that existed here long before the appearance of the house.

The initial goal was to combine the more natural character of the site with thoughtful decorative elements for the daily life of the family. As a result, the landscape has received a multi-layered structure, where functional areas are integrated into the natural environment as delicately as possible. This approach has allowed us to create a calm, private and emotionally charged environment that changes with the seasons and remains expressive at any time of the year.
