At Studia 54, we work with light as carefully as with layout or materials, considering it as a key design tool. We develop thoughtful lighting scenarios that take into account functional areas, customer habits and the dynamics of space during the day.
In this article, we explore five key areas of the home and share how, within the distinctive Studia 54 style, lighting can be thoughtfully selected and composed for each of them.
Why Is Lighting So Important?
Lighting has a direct impact on a person’s psycho-emotional state, productivity, and overall sense of comfort. This is supported by research in neurophysiology and chronobiology, including studies by Harvard Medical School, the Lighting Research Center (RPI), and guidelines issued by the CIE (International Commission on Illumination).
The spectrum and intensity of light affect circadian rhythms as well as cortisol and melatonin levels. Warm light reduces arousal and promotes relaxation, making it ideal for residential and recreational spaces. Neutral light supports sustained concentration and is commonly used in areas with active daytime functions. Cool light increases alertness and structures spatial perception, which is appropriate for work-oriented and highly functional zones.
Poorly designed lighting can lead to visual fatigue, cognitive overload, and a diminished sense of spatial quality — even in interiors with refined finishes and well-planned layouts. For this reason, professional interior design treats lighting not merely as a decorative element, but as a factor of physiological influence. Thoughtful lighting design creates a comfortable environment that supports people on the level of sensations, emotions, and everyday life scenarios.

Living Room
The living room is the emotional core of the home — a space for communication, relaxation, and entertaining guests. Here, lighting creates depth and spatial articulation. We design multi-layered lighting systems where general illumination defines volume, accent lighting highlights art objects, and local scenarios allow the atmosphere to change depending on the time of day and the nature of social interaction.
In a 516 m² residence in Dubai, lighting became one of the key expressive tools of the interior. The Studia 54 team developed a comprehensive lighting concept in which bespoke design elements serve as emotional focal points. A cone-shaped chandelier made of glass cylinders, created according to our original sketches, casts a complex play of light onto the plaster ceiling, evoking ripples on water and transforming the surface into a living interior scene.
Dimmable systems with adjustable light intensity allow the living room to shift from a ceremonial setting for evening receptions to an intimate space for quiet relaxation.

Dining Area
In the dining area, light becomes part of a ritual. It focuses attention on the dining table, creates a sense of intimacy, and at the same time maintains the ceremonial nature of the moment. We often use expressive pendant lights or chandeliers that establish a strong compositional center.
This approach was implemented in a 500 m² apartment project in New York. The open-plan layout required a subtle yet effective zoning solution, and lighting became the key tool. Carefully designed lighting scenarios allowed us to divide a single volume into two distinct scenes — the living room and the kitchen-dining area.
Soft, subdued lighting in the living room creates a sense of comfort and privacy, while the kitchen–dining area is treated in a more active and functional manner, with a clear focus on the dining table. The space remains visually unified, yet each scenario reads intuitively and naturally.

Master Bedroom
Lighting in the master bedroom is built around a sense of calm and privacy. Harsh light sources are avoided in favor of soft, diffused solutions. Hidden lighting, bedside fixtures, and gentle ceiling illumination work together to create a relaxing atmosphere that supports rest and recovery.
Lighting scenarios allow for a smooth transition from morning awakening to evening relaxation. Light becomes part of the owner’s personal rhythm, supporting comfort and emotional balance.

Bathroom
In Studia 54 projects, the bathroom is conceived as a fully developed interior scene and always receives special attention. Lighting here enhances volume, highlights materials, and creates the atmosphere of a private spa.
Soft illumination of niches, bathtubs, and shower areas adds lightness and depth. Mirrors are lit to ensure even, comfortable light, while adjustable scenarios allow the mood to shift from invigorating in the morning to calming in the evening.

Walk-in Closet
A walk-in closet requires a particularly precise approach to lighting. Every zone must be clearly visible, and colors and textures of clothing must be perceived accurately.
We use integrated lighting for shelves, rails, and drawers, complemented by soft general illumination. This solution ensures everyday comfort while emphasizing the refined, premium character of the interior.

Thoughtfully designed lighting scenarios allow a space to adapt to the client’s lifestyle, remaining flexible and emotionally rich. In the signature style of Studia 54, light becomes a design instrument — shaping atmosphere, placing meaningful accents, and giving each interior a distinctive identity and recognizable character.
