Our partnership with the customer began with the creation of an architectural project for his private residence of 1,500 m2 in Calcutta. He liked how we revealed the idea of the house, and the next step was to continue working together — to develop a landscape project for 20 acres.
The unique architecture of the house in India, created by the team in the Studia 54 corporate style, set the tone for the environment: the shapes, colors and materials of the building determined the rhythm of the plantings, the choice of coverings, accents of the entrance area and private courtyards.
It was crucial for the owner that the garden reflected the same sophisticated luxury and thoughtfulness as the house itself. In India, the area around the residence is not just a part of the site, but a symbol of status and taste. Therefore, we have created a space that impresses with its beauty and becomes a stage for communication, relaxation and admiration of guests.
The customer of the project is a hospitable person who appreciates the atmosphere of beautiful meetings and evenings with his family. Therefore, one of the key tasks was to create a space capable of comfortably accommodating up to 100 guests. We have provided for this in the layout, ensuring a harmonious combination of scale, comfort and ease of movement even during the most solemn receptions.
The concept of the «Secret Garden»
The name «Secret Garden» reflects the philosophy of the project: a combination of privacy, harmony and sophisticated sensuality. Everything here is designed to stop, inhale the scent of flowering trees, hear the sound of water and feel peace.
We conceived the landscape as a multisensory journey — a sequence of spaces, each of which reveals its own mood and character and at the same time does not lose its functionality.
Winding paths gently lead guests from sun-drenched lawns to shady groves and private courtyards. This path is a measured walk, a process of discovery and contemplation for the client's family members and guests of the residence.
Special attention is paid to the principles of Vastu, which are so important to the customer — the ancient Indian doctrine of the balance of the five elements. We have adapted his philosophy in the unique style of Studia 54 to create a space that is both inspiring and soothing. Thanks to our extensive experience in implementing projects in Eastern countries and fruitful cooperation with Vastu specialists, we have a deep understanding of this area.
Key elements of the composition
The dominant feature of the garden is the waterfall in the northeastern part of the site, which embodies the principles of Vastu and is a symbol of pure energy.
It is decorated in black stone with gold veins, and three sculptures of cranes made of polished metal add staginess and brilliance. Streams of water flow gently, creating a game of reflections and a feeling of continuous movement.
Next to the waterfall is a glass sculpture, an allegory of contemplation and spiritual balance. It seems to dissolve into the landscape, reflecting the light, foliage and sky. This is exactly the sculpture the customer dreamed of — we fulfilled his wish exactly with the references and created the sculpture as a symbol of harmony and inner peace, which became the central accent of the garden.
The landscape becomes a natural extension of the architectural concept, reflecting the same aesthetics characteristic of Studia 54: harmony of proportions, attention to detail and refined luxury without frills.
The paving of the paths is made of large-format stone with gold accents, and the lamps are embedded in the greenery so as not to disrupt the naturalness of perception. In the evening, the garden is transformed: the lighting gently emphasizes the relief, foliage and water surface.
Plants and atmosphere
For this project, we have selected plants that bloom 12 months a year so that the garden retains its brightness and energy at any time of the year. Lush crowns of trees, evergreen shrubs and fragrant flowers fill the space with sensual harmony and create a fascinating atmosphere of the «Secret Garden» — the idea underlying the entire concept of the project.
Each tree and shrub is selected taking into account the microclimate, terrain and orientation of the site. The garden seems to live its own life, but it is perfectly organized.
Here you can hold celebrations on the open lawn, walk along the paths wet after the rain, enjoy the evening light or just stay in silence — in a space where architecture and nature speak the same language.
Functionality
The paths and routes are designed according to a special scenario so as not to cross the «sacred center» of the site — Brahmastan. We have implemented this sacred principle of Vastu with special precision: the central space is left open and free, and zones with varying degrees of privacy are organized around it.
Technical and service logistics are neatly hidden in landscape niches, entrances and parking are connected to the main house through thoughtful pedestrian crossings that do not disrupt the overall rhythm of the garden.
Harmony and well-being
Landscape as part of the architectural concept is the key idea underlying our projects. At Studia 54, we create spaces where architecture and landscape are intertwined into a single whole, forming a harmonious environment in a recognizable studio style.
The ponds have calm, mirrored surfaces without sudden fluctuations — this solution softens the perception of space and creates a peaceful atmosphere, especially in the climate of the region. Each element of the landscape maintains a balance — visual, functional and energetic — so that the garden becomes a natural extension of the house, a place of strength and comfort for family and guests.
The «Secret Garden» landscape project in Kolkata in the Studia 54 corporate style is a continuation of the architectural idea we implemented earlier. It became an expression of trust and dialogue between the studio and the customer, combining the Eastern philosophy and the unique design language of the studio.
