Vigna d’Oro: an estate with a vineyard in Baku

The client approached us with a plot of land containing a vineyard and an existing house that he wanted to demolish: the building did not match his lifestyle and his vision of a dream home. Studia 54 was tasked with preserving the character of the place, maintaining the visual code of the settlement, and at the same time showcasing the 515 m² house in the studio’s recognizable aesthetic: through a light palette, durable materials, expressive details, and a connection between the interior and outdoor living.

We preserved the connection with the existing character of the settlement and strengthened it through wide overhangs made of thermo‑ash, travertine‑look porcelain stoneware, decorative grilles on the windows, and an entrance door with a rhythm that echoes the facade openings. As a result, the house acquired a more cohesive, bright, and noble appearance, preserving the southern charm of the already established environment.

The vineyard became our source of inspiration

The existing vineyard became an important starting point for us. It shaped the project’s name, supported the image of a southern estate, and provided a direction for the small details. Warm wood tones appeared in the house, along with grape and ochre undertones in the textiles, decorative elements with a soft repetition, and accents that resonate with the nature of the site.

We deliberately developed this theme through the details. The vineyard was already part of the place, so the interior and exterior had the opportunity to speak the same language as it did. The wood under the eaves, the stone texture of the facade, the tiles, the patterned tiles, and the upholstered furniture on the terrace create the feeling of a house that has grown out of its plot.

The heart of the house: the pool terrace

The main pool terrace has become one of the liveliest spaces in the project. Here, the house opens up to the vineyard, the water, and the courtyard. We have provided a soft lounge area, a dining zone, a place to relax by the water, and several veranda scenarios: more open areas for sun and more sheltered zones under the canopies.

It was here that our team proposed enhancing the project with national motifs. The client enthusiastically supported this initiative. Thus, patterns inspired by the Azerbaijani carpet tradition appeared in the terrace area: rhythmic geometry, small medallions, terracotta, ochre, milky, and blue‑green accents.

We transferred this motif to tiles, textiles, carpet inserts, and outdoor furniture. The ornament connects the house to the place much deeper than a direct decorative sign. It adds movement to the surface, makes the terrace warmer, and supports the image of a southern estate.

In daylight, the ornament looks light and graphic. In the evening, when the lighting is turned on, it becomes more intimate. This detail makes the terrace recognizable and adds a local character to the project.

The new image of the house

Vigna d’Oro is a reinterpretation of the existing house in the Studia 54 style. We sought not to erase the original character of the building, but to reveal it more fully: to add depth to the facades, to emphasize the proportions, to strengthen the connection with the garden, and to make the house visually closer to a southern estate.

The main material used for the facade is travertine‑look porcelain stoneware. It gives the house a warm stone texture and a calm, light base. This material is suitable for a southern climate and will remain relevant for years to come: the facade looks expensive, restrained and confident, and its shade pairs well with the greenery of the plot, the water in the pool and the terracotta roof.

Red roof tiles added a special charm to the house. The horizontal projection of the roof is approximately 340 m². On such an area, the tiles become one of the main visual elements. It can be seen from a distance, supports the image of the estate, and, together with the vineyard, creates a subtle association with a southern estate.

The overhangs made of thermo‑ash soften the stone base of the facade. The wood adds warmth, creates beautiful shade, and connects the house with the terraces. In a sunny climate, such overhangs are of particular importance: they protect the interior spaces from direct light and make the areas near the facade more comfortable during the day.

The visual code of the settlement

It was important for us to preserve the connection with the surrounding buildings. The red sloping roof, the light-colored stone facade, and the decorative elements helped the house remain part of the settlement, while the recognizable details of Studia 54 gave it its own individuality.

The decorative grilles on the windows became one of the key techniques. They protect the rooms from intense sunlight, create a deep interplay of shadows, and add a graphic quality to the facade. Their rhythm is supported by the entrance door: the large decorative elements on the door echo the window grilles and bring the main facade together into a single composition.

The southern climate as part of the concept

Northern houses are often built to protect against cold, wind, and short daylight hours. In a southern climate, the logic is different: the house opens up to the sun, the garden, the water, and the terraces. Life spills out onto the street, and the open spaces become an extension of the interior.

The plot with the vineyard made it possible to create a house where the facade, terraces, pool, and garden are integrated into one family scenario. Here, you can have breakfast by the water, spend the day in the shade of the overhangs, receive guests on the terrace, relax in the lounge area by the pool, and in the evening return to the warm glow of the house.

House layout, 515 m²

Ground floor

The ground floor combines the main family and guest scenarios. In the center are the living room, kitchen, and dining room, which form a single public space. It’s convenient to cook here, gather with the whole family, receive guests, and go out to the terrace.

The main entrance leads to the hallway and the hall, which connects the ground floor with the staircase, living room, and service rooms. A laundry room, a technical room, and a storage room are provided separately, so that household processes remain unobtrusive and do not disrupt the rhythm of the living areas.

The main terrace and the covered veranda become an extension of the interior. During the warm season, you can have breakfast, dinner, relax by the pool, and receive guests here.

Second floor

The second floor is dedicated to the private part of the house. It features five bedrooms with their own bathrooms, connected by a common hall and gallery. The layout creates a quiet family route and ensures each room has the necessary level of privacy.

The second‑floor terrace connects the bedrooms with the garden and open views. It continues the southern design of the house, where private spaces also have a connection to the air and the nature of the plot.

Durable and sustainable materials

In Studia 54 projects, beauty is always linked to durability. For Vigna d’Oro, we chose materials that can withstand the southern climate and retain their visual appeal under intense sunlight.

Travertine‑effect porcelain stoneware gives the facade a stone‑like depth and is suitable for long‑term use. Thermowood in the overhangs adds a warm texture and helps to soften the scale of the house. Decorative grilles create shade, protect privacy, and make the facades more flexible.

The red roof tiles complete the look. They add recognizability to the house, support the visual code of the village, and enhance the feeling of a southern estate. Combined with the vineyard, this technique makes the project cohesive: the house is perceived as part of the landscape, not as a separate new object on the plot.

Vigna d’Oro became a project about the careful renovation of an existing house. We maintained the connection with the village, enhanced the southern character of the site, and added the signature Studia 54 aesthetic through a light stone palette, thermo‑ash wood, red tiles, decorative grilles, and detailed work with open spaces.
