Architectural design of a luxury villa in India with a private pond

Sunskar mansion inspired by the recognizable project by Studia 54

The project of the elegant 3000 sq m Sunskar residence in India combines grandiose scale and refined elegance. For our client, we’ve designed a man-made water body that was supposed to emphasize the secluded atmosphere of the property. His admiration for the works of Studia 54 encouraged him to work towards creating a mansion similar to our recognizable Panchgani villa, but with a greater southern touch. We've reached it by minimizing the number of doors and providing an abundance of open passageways.

Where the art of scale comes alive

The client's main wishes for their future home were privacy, an abundance of water features, and a large terrace with breathtaking views.

To meet the first two needs, we designed a man-made pond in front of the mansion, carefully crafted to resemble a natural body of water, with lush greenery and varying heights enhancing its authenticity. In this case, however, the private pond provides a sense of seclusion and serenity.

The two-story Sunskar mansion stands out for its asymmetrical design and features two primary materials: natural wood and multicolored porcelain stoneware. Considering the climate, we minimized the number of doors, opting instead for open passageways and expansive sliding glass panels to ensure that the space is filled with natural light.

The villa includes six bedrooms, a spacious master suite, a guest unit, a themed game zone with a bar and billiards, and an indoor pool. The heart of the house is the enfilade — a series of rooms aligned along a single axis. Historically, the enfilade linked spaces functionally and symbolized a hierarchy of space. In the Sunskar project, it represents the connection between different functional areas and various living experiences.

Sunskar is designed to be the perfect place to host important guests in the luxurious ambiance of a high-end hotel, where every detail invites admiration and the atmosphere encourages a peaceful, indulgent stay.

    Elegant terrace in subdued colors

The Sunskar project features several spacious terraces, and one of them is defined by a soft sofa group overlooking the pool, while the other includes an open kitchen with a dining area. An abundance of wood in a noble brown shade combined with gold accents and warm ceiling lighting create a cozy environment for relaxation.

Outdoor swimming pool with hearth area

A spacious infinity pool with a recessed hearth area is positioned in front of the terrace. The pool extends along the entire length of the house, giving you convenient access to it from any part of the house. This is yet another crucial water point in Sunskar, thus creating a harmony between several elements. The natural wood supports rise majestically above the water, reminiscent of a large gateway, while the wild rainforest surroundings provide a sense of absolute freedom and privacy.

Elegant circular driveway to Sunskar Mansion

A water cascade adorning the entrance to the mansion

Within the first seconds on the grounds of Villa Sunskar, every detail evokes the feeling of staying in a hidden, mysterious corner. The circular driveway, reminiscent of luxury hotels from the movies, leads to a spacious covered car park for 10 cars.

At the entrance, we installed a striking natural wood canopy with an integrated waterfall. The canopy’s perimeter features a cornice of crisscrossed slats, which has become a signature element in recent Studia 54 projects. This design choice reflects our bureau's fusion of oriental influences with our distinctive style.

In the Sunskar mansion project, we modernized the idea of the Panchgani house, but this time we did not stick to a purely Indian style. The villa in shades of grey and brown gives the impression of an expensive resort that has been transformed into your home. There is a deep connection with nature, and the site's location in southern India, surrounded by forest, provides privacy and a serene idyll. Studia 54 has gone to great lengths to ensure that Sunskar is a symbiosis of our unique style and the future owner's bold dreams.
