Secrets of Premium Interior design: Studia 54's approach to Design

«I want coffee in bed, but I don’t want to have to walk to the kitchen.» «I want to live in the same house as my relatives, but I want everyone to have their own private space and only meet for dinner.» «I don’t like this wood color.» «I don’t feel comfortable with such an abundance of color.»

The customer comes for a beautiful house, and in the process it becomes clear that the value of the project lies in the accuracy: where there is a cup of coffee in the morning, how staff routes are arranged, where the family gathers in the evening and how art is revealed in the living room.

Behind the beautiful furniture and paintings on the walls is the precise and well-coordinated work of the team. At Studia 54, we start working on a project by understanding how the customer will live in this house every day.

In this article, we will talk about the interior kitchen of the Studia 54 projects: how we work with the wishes of customers, art objects and private collections, how we select materials and color, and what we see as the main secret of a premium interior.

Layout as a basis

People are often more aware of their stimuli than they are of their desires. One customer says, «I like coffee in bed, I don't want to go to the kitchen,» and this phrase becomes the basis for the logic of the bedroom, the location of the kitchen, and the morning route.

Another explains: «I work from home, I need an office that is isolated from the kitchen and living room,» and the project immediately gets a clear separation between the work area and the family part of the house.

The third one comes with a request: «My mother-in-law comes often, but I need absolute privacy,» and then the layout should take into account the guest scenario so that family communication retains comfortable boundaries for everyone.

That is why the personal project expert always asks what the customer definitely does not want to see in his future home.

The kitchen of the project begins with understanding these needs and turning them into the logic of the layout. Therefore, our specialists always pay special attention to thinking over private areas, storage, routes of movement of owners and staff, technical rooms, bedrooms, master unit, children's rooms, living rooms. It sounds like a block-building task, but it's actually a lifestyle-building job.

Studia 54 usually offers three layout options because one option limits the vision. The three options allow the customer to see the difference in approaches and choose the one that best reflects their lifestyle and fits the design concept in the future.

Sometimes there are complex family situations. For example, in one of the projects, a sister lived with her husband and a brother who wanted to be in the same house, but at the same time completely share their spaces. It seemed that it was necessary to unite the inextricable. The solution was separate entrances, separate routes of movement, common spaces, which are functionally separated at the same time. The family could see each other on the premises, but they lived in complete isolation in the house.

Materials VS Color

When the layout is approved, work begins on the selection of materials. This is the main mistake of those who start with color.

Discussing references becomes one of the key stages of project preparation: it is important to find a common visual language with the customer in style, materials and color combinations. At the specific request of the customer, for example, for a monochrome beige interior, color becomes part of the concept from the first stages. In other cases, it connects closer to the end as a tool that supports the idea and connects the materials.

The choice of material directly affects the long-term operation of the house. The kumaru tree is selected for its ability to darken beautifully over time. The stone is chosen for how it will look in five years, when the patina appears. The metal must be oxidized so that the process looks noble, and not like wear. This is a time story embedded in the design of a house project.

Sometimes, in the course of work, the customer comes and says that he has a lot of wood, that the combination of colors and materials seems exuberant to him, that it is simply impossible to live in such a palette from a psychological point of view. At such times, the project requires editing. It is necessary to remove unnecessary things, strengthen the main emphasis, leave more air, give the space peace of mind. The result sounds paradoxical: we redesigned the interior, preserving the premium and unique style, and the house began to look much more collected. The customer was literally reassured by the materials and their quantity.

Art in Projects Studia 54

A painting, sculpture, or an author's installation can set the direction for the entire palette of the interior, for the choice of light, the arrangement of furniture, and the overall mood of the room. This idea sounds extreme, but in the practice of Studia 54 it works all the time.

Working with private collections of customers requires special attention, because a collection is often a collection of a person's life. He brought back a sculpture from a trip, bought a vase from an artist, and inherited a painting. Such objects have personal value, so we look in advance for a special place for them in the interior. Sometimes a single painting or sculpture affects the layout of a room: it is important from what angle it opens, what light it is illuminated by, and how it interacts with the furniture around it.

The selection of art objects for the interior is a delicate job, so customers often turn to us for professional help. Our designers regularly attend international exhibitions of modern and classical art, follow current trends and select works that are organically integrated into the concept of the house.

Commercial and residential spaces

The premium interior reflects a person's lifestyle, habits, collections, travel, favorite materials, attitude to art and personal comfort. In the residence, this interior reveals the history of the family, in the hotel it conveys the character of the brand and creates a first impression for the guests. These are completely different tasks that require different thinking.

It is important for an apartment building to create an atmosphere of tranquility that allows a person to relax in their own space. A restaurant needs commercial appeal because food is a ritual and a set design of the experience. For an office, you need to maintain rigor and minimalism, but at the same time add accents so that people feel comfortable working. Studia 54 develops competence in all these areas.

Books, vases, textiles, tableware, personal items, and decor add life to the home. They need to be selected as carefully as furniture and materials, because if done correctly, a person enters a house and feels that this interior is about him.

Customers are often surprised when they see how each shelf and coffee table is designed. Selected plants, vases, pillows, books. This is a job of arranging meanings. The decor should be chosen with love, because through these little things the house becomes a place where you want to be.

Trends are a tool for developing ideas

Actual colors, shapes, and materials give a fresh accent to the interior, but the layout of the house, the personality of the customer, and the long-term concept remain the basis. Studia 54 designers attend exhibitions, even fashion shows, to keep abreast of current trends. You need to understand trends in order to be able to use them or consciously move away from them.

The paradox is that any interior, like the world of high fashion, should be timeless. If the interior is built on a trend, after two years it looks outdated. If the interior is built on the design mindset and personality of the customer, then the trends in it sound like accents, and the concept remains relevant for years.
